Welcome to Architect Gadgets and to the post Gifts for Architecture Student: The 10 best gifts for architecture students you will find. Are you a parent looking for a gift for your architecture student son or daughter? Are you searching for a nice birthday present for your architecture student friend (even though she doesn’t go out that much because she is always studying)? If so, you have come to the right place. In this post, I will give you ten different ideas about gifts for architecture students. Ready? Let’s get started!
Before I start listing the products, I would like to explain you quickly how I have chosen them.
The following list comes from narrowing down all the gifts that I like and recommend to the ones I think would fit best into the profile of an architecture student, no matter the gender. I like gadgets (otherwise I wouldn’t be doing this website) so you will see that there are quite a few of them here, but I have also added products outside of the tech-savvy world that I think would make for a nice gift for an architecture student. Some of them are suggestions from my readers and some are products that I have seen and liked. All of them are presents that I would personally choose if I were to buy a gift for an architecture student.
Here is the list of the 10 best Gifts for an architecture student, ordered by price (low to high) with the product details and explanation after it:
- Pilot Razor Point II
- A book. For example: 101 things I learned from architecture school
- Funny T-shirt. For example: Architecture degree loading

Pens and pencils are the main tools in the working life of an Architect. Each of us has its own favourites, which become so through a mix of luck and trial and error. As an architecture student, he better starts getting to know as many of these tools as possible so he can find out as soon as possible the ones that works best for him. Although this is not the most fancy of gifts and it is certainly not adequate as a main birthday gift, it is great as a stocking stuffer. The Pilot Razor Point II pens are great for sketching on a sketchbook and one of the favourites of many Architects.

A book. For example: 101 things I learned from architecture school
Architecture is one of the fields where people love books more. It will be very difficult for you to go wrong with this type of gift, so, if you are not sure what to pick, go for a book! For architecture students, a book that is highly recommended is 101 things I learned from architecture school, as it explains in a simple and clear way things that tend to be enigmatic in the academic environment. Otherwise, if you know which architect the architecture student loves, a book or magazine about that specific Architect will also be an amazing gifts. For example, if she is a fan of Mies van der Rohe, the book Mies by Detlef Mertins is an amazing gift. Architectural books tend to be rather expensive as well as useful, so this is something the architecture student will appreciate a lot.
101 Things I Learned in Architecture School (MIT Press)
101 THINGS I LEARNED IN ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL is a book that students of architecture will want to keep in the design studio and in their backpacks. It is also a book they may want to keep out of view of their professors, for it expresses in clear and simple language the things they tend to […]
Unprecedented in scope and illustrated with more than 700 original drawings, plans, diagrams, and latest and archival photographs, Mies by Detlef Mertins is essentially the most definitive monograph ever published at the brand new master of architecture Mies van der Rohe. Mertins’ wealthy and highly readable text traces the aesthetic and intellectual context for all […]
This is specially suitable if you are giving a gift to your friend and want to have a bit of fun with it. It might not be a great gift depending on her personality, but it could also be an amazing one, you will know better! There are a lot of Architect targeted t-shirts out there, but I think this one is rather suitable and funny for an architecture student. If you follow the link, you can choose the colour, size and gender.
This will be a very original and certainly unexpected gift. This miniature cinder blocks are 1.3 x 0.66 x 0.66 inches (33 x 16.75 x 16.75 mm), so they are great as a decoration object. Very well rated in Amazon also.

Architecture students tend to burn the midnight oil rather often. For that reason, a good lamp is of vital importance during the degree and makes for a great gift for architecture students. The TaoTronics LED Desk Lamp is the best seller in the Desk Lamps category on Amazon, so you cannot go wrong with this choice.
Another miniature option is this Red and Blue Chair. Most architecture students cannot afford a real size design chair, but they would love to have this as a decoration on their desks. The same company does other famous chairs also, so if this one is not your cup of tea but you like the idea, you can follow the link so you can have a look at the alternatives, which includes chairs from Mies van der Rohe or Le Corbusier, to name but a few.

This mechanical pencil was suggested by two of my readers (thanks Enrique and Belén!). Great mechanical pencil for sketching, with the advantage it becomes a much cheaper option over the long run than having to buy new pens. It is one of the favourites of most Architects, so you cannot go wrong with this gift.

While you are studying architecture, why not learn from one of the best? Frank Gehry’s architecture doesn’t leave anybody indifferent, so I think it is very interesting to find out a bit more about his design process and inspirations. A great present, especially for any fan of his work, and the perfect last minute option as it is fully online and you don’t need to wait for the delivery of the product. Press the “GIFT” button to get this as a gift to somebody else.
With all the work done now in BIM and other 3D applications such as Rhino, a 3D mouse is a great gift for an Architecture student. Although this gadget has not reached yet mainstream adoption, you can already see it here and there. Your architecture student will be surprised and grateful for such a useful gadget!
A computer is, without a doubt, the most important gadget an architecture student will need, as almost everything he does, he will do in a computer. I wrote two extensive articles about computers a while back, which can help you in the decision. One is Best laptops for Architects – The principles, where I explain the principles you should be taking into account when choosing a laptop. The other one is Best laptops for Architects – The recommendations, where I bring the principles onto real life products. As a low budget option, I recommend the ASUS VivoBook V551LA. However, as I mentioned in those two posts, it might be better for you to shop around a bit before committing, as there are new products all the time and you might be able to find something better outside of the Amazon world.
