Selection Process

Selection process of gifts for architecture student

Before I start listing the products, I would like to explain you quickly how I have chosen them. I also considered softwares like youtube converter i convert media

The following list comes from narrowing down all the gifts that I like and recommend to the ones I think would fit best into the profile of an architecture student, no matter the gender. I like gadgets (otherwise I wouldn’t be doing this website) so you will see that there are quite a few of them here, but I have also added products outside of the tech-savvy world that I think would make for a nice gift for an architecture student. Some of them are suggestions from my readers and some are products that I have seen and liked. All of them are presents that I would personally choose if I were to buy a gift for an architecture student.

The List

Here is the list of the 10 best Gifts for an architecture student, ordered by price (low to high) with the product details and explanation after it:

The Products

Pens and pencils are the main tools in the working life of an Architect. Each of us has its own favourites, which become so through a mix of luck and trial and error. As an architecture student, he better starts getting to know as many of these tools as possible so he can find out as soon as possible the ones that works best for him. Although this is not the most fancy of gifts and it is certainly not adequate as a main birthday gift, it is great as a stocking stuffer. The Pilot Razor Point II pens are great for sketching on a sketchbook and one of the favourites of many Architects.

Architecture is one of the fields where people love books more. It will be very difficult for you to go wrong with this type of gift, so, if you are not sure what to pick, go for a book! For architecture students, a book that is highly recommended is 101 things I learned from architecture school, as it explains in a simple and clear way things that tend to be enigmatic in the academic environment. Otherwise, if you know which architect the architecture student loves, a book or magazine about that specific Architect will also be an amazing gifts. For example, if she is a fan of Mies van der Rohe, the book Mies by Detlef Mertins is an amazing gift. Architectural books tend to be rather expensive as well as useful, so this is something the architecture student will appreciate a lot.

This is specially suitable if you are giving a gift to your friend and want to have a bit of fun with it. It might not be a great gift depending on her personality, but it could also be an amazing one, you will know better! There are a lot of Architect targeted t-shirts out there, but I think this one is rather suitable and funny for an architecture student. If you follow the link, you can choose the colour, size and gender.

Architecture students tend to burn the midnight oil rather often. For that reason, a good lamp is of vital importance during the degree and makes for a great gift for architecture students. The TaoTronics LED Desk Lamp is the best seller in the Desk Lamps category on Amazon, so you cannot go wrong with this choice.

Another miniature option is this Red and Blue Chair. Most architecture students cannot afford a real size design chair, but they would love to have this as a decoration on their desks. The same company does other famous chairs also, so if this one is not your cup of tea but you like the idea, you can follow the link so you can have a look at the alternatives, which includes chairs from Mies van der Rohe or Le Corbusier, to name but a few.

A computer is, without a doubt, the most important gadget an architecture student will need, as almost everything he does, he will do in a computer. I wrote two extensive articles about computers a while back, which can help you in the decision. One is Best laptops for Architects – The principles, where I explain the principles you should be taking into account when choosing a laptop. The other one is Best laptops for Architects – The recommendations, where I bring the principles onto real life products. As a low budget option, I recommend the ASUS VivoBook V551LA. However, as I mentioned in those two posts, it might be better for you to shop around a bit before committing, as there are new products all the time and you might be able to find something better outside of the Amazon world.
